Since 1855 – A nice place to stay since 1987
The architecture’s exterior boasts one of Wilmington’s last standing Victorian facades. The interior maintains the 1886 exposed brick and beams. The furnishings in each suite are contemporary and each has central heat and air. Our common deck above the parking area has excellent views of the Cape Fear River, the battleship USS North Carolina, and the western horizon with magnificent sunsets. The 4th of July firework display viewed from our deck is grand.
Local attractions and activities are abundant. The Riverwalk is so close, virtually out the back door. There are great galleries, museums (even for children) and antique shops dotting the Historic District. One will find horse-drawn carriage rides, historic homes, unique shopping and dining (casual & formal), java shoppes, salons, consignment shops, night life and much more.
The Cape Fear Coast is one of the last and most beautiful natural seashores on the Atlantic Ocean. In the summertime take a swim in the waves, surf, body board, play and soak up a little sun. Charter boat fishing, great golf courses and tennis courts are also available. Have lunch, dinner and/or cocktails at one of the oceanfront restaurants or return to the Historic District for some great options. Like dining at a nearby restaurant or taking in a foreign film or some theatre at Thalian Hall.
What our visitors say
Absolutely perfect place to stay in downtown Wilmington. I went to school at UNCW and came back to visit for River Fest with my parents, and this was in a super convenient part of town. Everywhere we wanted to go was easily walkable. Besides the location, the actual building was super cool. Being built in 1855, this inn had so much charm, but was updated and stocked with everything you need. Plus, Fran was so welcoming, warm and helpful. We would definitely stay here again and without question would recommend Stemmerman’s Inn to friends and family.”
We stayed at Stemmerman’s while we were in Wilmington for a wedding over Labor Day weekend. After shopping around for hotels, Stemmerman’s was the best priced and also the closest to the reception at Bakery 105 (literally right across the street, so convenient). We didn’t bother renting a car as everything downtown was walkable. It is super close to the riverwalk which is nice. Our suite was beautiful and clean and they thought of everything as far as amenities go. It was quiet and we never really heard the other guests or anyone outside. There are a lot of stairs, but we knew that going in and they advertise that very well before booking so that you are aware if stairs will be an issue.
But, the best part of our stay was Fran, the innkeeper. She was incredibly hospitable and just plain nice. When we arrived in Wilmington (several hours earlier than check-in) she was happy to get us in early and provided us with a wonderful rundown of Wilmington and gave us plenty of recommendations. Anytime we ran into her over the weekend, she was so friendly and really made us feel welcome. If we ever make it back to Wilmington again, we won’t even bother looking for anywhere else to stay. Stemmerman’s is the place to stay if you want to be downtown.”
We stayed at Stemmerman’s Inn for our wedding earlier this month. It was a wonderful stay. Fran (the innkeeper) was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. The room itself was clean, quiet, and across the street from our wedding venue. We were able to find parking easily. Very affordable and great location close to the river and riverwalk. We hope to return some time in the future :)!”
Comfortable and convenient place to stay in Wilmington! Just a few steps from all the cool stuff in the historic center. Best part is Fran the innkeeper who will make sure you are happy and comfortable! Will plan to stay there again.”
This place is absolutely fantastic. Fran is wonderful and will work with you to help you get the best possible stay. It’s such a nice place. Beautiful interior and super comfortable with a ton of space. Located in a great area to explore downtown Wilmington. Stemmermans is 100% the getaway spot in downtown.”
Fran goes above and beyond to make you feel so welcome! We stayed here for my wedding weekend, the suites are beautiful, comfortable and spotless. They were great for photos as well! Can’t wait to go back for a downtown staycation here :)”
We stayed for one night this past weekend & I cannot say enough good things! First and foremost, Fran the Innkeeper is a sweetheart! Upon check in she gave us a tour of the property and made us feel so welcome. Our room was great, impeccably clean, and very affordable. We have been going to Wilmington for years and I hate that it took us so long to discover this hidden gem! We will definitely be back:)”
The inn is in the perfect location for whatever you want to do in Wilmington. Parking is a huge bonus. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well appointed. Fran is an enthusiastic and gracious host who strives to accommodate your needs.”

Fran was absolutely wonderful!! The rooms were adorable and she made it feel like home. You can conveniently walk to restaurants and bars. Highly recommend 💕”
My wedding was last weekend at Bakery105 and we rented out Stemmerman’s Inn for my wedding party. Fran made the entire experience absolutely amazing!! She was always there to answer any questions and get us anything we needed for our rooms. I would highly recommend staying at Stemmerman’s if you are in Wilmington. The rooms are so cute and we had the most amazing time!! Thank you Fran for all of your help!!”
This Inn is so fantastic, I almost want to keep it a secret. Our suite was impeccably clean, beautifully appointed, reasonably priced, and the location is amazing. Walkable to everything you’d want to see in Downtown Wilmington.
The Innkeeper, Fran, welcomes you as though you are beloved friend.
As a frequent visitor to Wilmington, Stemmerman’s has jumped to the top of my list of accommodations!”
Such a unique historic inn located in the heart of downtown Wilmington! Walkable to all the restaurants, shops, and bars downtown. My husband and I got married at 128 South and Bakery 105 so we rented out all the rooms at Stemmerman’s for our family and friends to stay for the weekend! It was so convenient to stay literally next door to our venue and be able to get ready there. The hospitality provided by Fran, the innkeeper, was truly exceptional! My family still talks about how amazing, friendly, and helpful Fran was! If you are hosting a wedding or event at 128 South or Bakery 105 you should most definitely book Stemmerman’s Inn as well. Or if you’re just coming to Wilmington and need a place to stay downtown this is the place to stay!!”
Truly a hidden gem in Wilmington! Beautiful, quaint Inn in the heart of downtown. Fran was nothing short of a spectacular host. No other hotel/motel/inn could ever compare to the hospitality, experience, and warmth given by Stemmerman’s. 5 stars is not enough.”
Innkeeper Fran was SO NICE, helpful, pleasant and kind. Highly recommend!! We’d stay there again in an instant! Comfortable bed, quiet and very clean. Location perfect for walking around Wilmington. Bars, restaurants, shopping, points of interest mostly within a 10-min or less walk.”
The hidden gem of Wilmington. Walkable distance to anywhere in the historic/riverfront area. Perfect if you are going to the amphitheater. Short drive to the beach. Beautiful and spacious 2 level suites. Fran at the front desk is the kindest and most helpful! Genuinely wants you to have the best possible time! I would stay here again and again.”
I can’t wait to go back and stay again!! This place is outstanding. The suites are incredible – amazing space, beautiful decor, great views of downtown Wilmington, and super clean. The amenities were fabulous and Fran was so welcoming, friendly and helpful! Can’t beat the proximity to downtown Wilmington hot spots too! I will be back!”
